How it works

Four steps. About twelve weeks.

Designed so you can get cured without taking time off work, arranging childcare, or driving across the state.

  1. 01

    Tell us about you

A 60-second form or one phone call. We verify your insurance and confirm coverage before you spend a dollar.

  2. 02

    Get labs near you

One blood draw at any Quest, LabCorp, or Fresh Start location. We send the order to whichever is most convenient.

  3. 03

    Meet your provider by video

A Fresh Start clinician reviews your results, prescribes the right medication, and ships it to your pharmacy of choice.

  4. 04

    Take the medication. Get cured.

One pill a day for 8 to 12 weeks. Brief video check-ins along the way. A final blood test confirms cure.

Why Fresh Start

A real medical practice. Not a website that ships pills.

Fresh Start Health Centers is a federally certified Rural Health Clinic with four locations across Eastern Kentucky and a team that has been practicing in this region for years. We treat hepatitis C the way it should be treated — with the same care your primary doctor would give you, just without the drive.

  • Licensed Kentucky providers — DEA-registered, board-eligible, practicing in-state.
  • Coordinated care — primary care, MAT, and behavioral health under one roof if you need it.
  • HIPAA-secure platform — your information is protected by federal law.
Cost & insurance

For most Kentuckians, treatment costs $0.

Kentucky Medicaid

$0 out of pocket

Hepatitis C treatment is fully covered for Kentucky Medicaid members. We handle the prior authorization paperwork — you don't.

Commercial insurance

Usually $0 – low copay

Most BCBS, Humana, Aetna, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare plans cover treatment. We verify your specific benefits before your first appointment.

I'd been told I had hep C for years. I never had time to drive to Lexington for appointments. Fresh Start did everything by video. Eight weeks later my labs came back undetectable.

Frequently asked

Things people ask us first.

Is hepatitis C really curable?

Yes. Modern direct-acting antiviral medications cure more than 95% of hepatitis C cases. Most people complete treatment in 8 to 12 weeks. Cure means the virus is gone — not just controlled.

Do I have to come into the clinic?

No. The entire program is telehealth. You'll get one round of lab work — at any Quest, LabCorp, or one of our four Fresh Start locations — and the rest happens by secure video or phone. Medication is mailed to your preferred pharmacy.

How much does it cost?

For Kentucky Medicaid members and most commercial insurance plans, treatment costs $0 out of pocket. We verify your specific benefits before any charges and walk you through any copays in advance. If you're uninsured, we can usually enroll you in Medicaid or apply for the manufacturer's patient assistance program the same day.

Is the medication safe?

Direct-acting antivirals (Mavyret, Epclusa, Harvoni and similar) are FDA-approved and have an excellent safety record. Side effects are usually mild — mostly fatigue or headache. Your provider will review your full medical history and any current medications before prescribing.

I'm in active addiction. Can I still be treated?

Yes. CDC and AASLD guidelines explicitly recommend treating hepatitis C regardless of substance use status — and Fresh Start specializes in caring for people in this exact situation. We can also coordinate medication-assisted treatment if you want it. You will not be turned away.

How long until I'm cured?

Most patients finish medication in 8 to 12 weeks. We do a final blood test 12 weeks after your last dose to confirm cure (called "SVR12"). Total program length is roughly 5 to 6 months from first appointment to confirmation.

What if I live outside Eastern Kentucky?

This program serves the entire state. As long as you live in Kentucky and can get to a lab one time, we can treat you.
